About the series (after):

The series (after) imitates the rhythm of poetic language. Rendering the images in woodblocks allows me to repeat forms while shifting details to mimic the call and response of a poetic refrain. The text is unreadable and becomes object-- a symbol of missed communication, a trace. Drawn from sketches of statues, like the angel lifting the fallen soldier from a WWI memorial to the unknown solider in Cortona, Italy, each figure is caught in moments of compassion, struggle, ecstasy and shame. The recognizable forms slip from representation to abstraction like the temporality of memory and the inevitability of its failure.
